"PRAY FOR ANTON LAVEY"

Good old Anton, he never stopped fighting.Now, some chaoists may wonder why LaVey is mentioned here. "Surley he wasn't a chaoist" I hear you say. Well, although, strictly speaking, he was a traditional Dark Magus, many of his satanic philosophies intersect with Discordianism. I quote from The Satanic Bible:

"No standard can ever be made, because, under the proper circumstances, all standards are subject to change."

Although kitch and kooky, LaVey's satanic magick attempts to strip magick down, much like Chaoism. Although not as strripped down as Chaos magick, LaVey's current remains a potent form of Sorcery.

He boiled all magickal operation down to three catagories: conjurations of Compassion, Destruction and Lust. Now although the magick is fairley laughable (you should read his conjuration of Lust!), the point is that it is theoretically sound.

Satanism as a system of belief is also a very potent tool to counter-condition blatant Christian moral taboos. I think this was LaVey's point, and this is where he shines. The Book of Satan was very much needed; the Devil finally had a chance to speak out! There is no doubt he played up to his role as Satanic Minister just to piss off the moral majority, and for this we salute him-immanentize the eschaton, ANY WAY YOU CAN.

- Timothy Leary What can we say about this brilliant, loving and witty man? Tim was a Harvard professor in psychology.One fatal day he ate a dose of mexican mushrooms while sitting by a pool,

"That day, I learned more about the mind than than 30 years of studying ...."

, and so the legacy of Leary was born.
He got fired from Harvard and begun his search for "the philosopher's stone". He set up the International Federation for Internal Freedom, which attracted many people, most notably Carlos Casteneda, then still young and unpublished.

After the discovery of LSD, which he embraced, he set up the League for Spiritual Discovery (LSD), which aimed to explore the inner mindscapes through group journeys. Leary's life story, that is, his fight for freedom is remarkably similar to the life of Aleister Crowley,. Both were dubbed "The Evilist Men In The World" by authorities, both experimented with drugs, and both seemed to be on a quest for knowledge and experience.

Leary's contribution to Chaos magick is unprecedented. And he never studied magick. He developed an 8 circuit model of consiousness(see NeuroLogick page) wich is arguably the most important magickal-psychological breakthrough of the last centuary.

Leary's life was spent fighting the authorities, and although a humble and quite man, he was portrayed as a drug pusher, hippie and corrupter of youth. Leary made the bid for the next generation, and won. He managed to turn on America and convinced a generation to reject the values of their parents.

He spent a good deal of time studying the eastern religions, translating and adapting the Tibetan Book of the Dead as a psychedelic guide and prayer book.

He was in and out of prison- 2 sentences: the first was a 30 year sentence for posseion of an eighth of an ounce of ganja, and the second one was 10 years for possesion of TWO joints.

Despite all this, he came out the winner. Months in solitary confinment tested all that he was preaching, and he used it to the full (read Cosmic Trigger 1, by R.A Wilson). After he was released from solitary, where he was conducting "The Sirius Transmissions", pictures were released to the media. There, on his face was that legendary Leary Grin, which spoke, without uttering a sound, "I know something you don't". Jail time could not break his spirits, the authorities couldn't break him. He had won, simply by turning every situation to his advantage.

Bill Hicks, the dark poet, the Devil Child himself incarnated,and very pissed off!!Bill Hicks spoke the truth, so natuarlly, he was "evil" in the eyes of conservatives. What is interesting about Bill's live performances, is that he'll lure in a part of the audience into thinking "yeah, this guy is cool", making them comfortable, an then out of nowhere, he'll attack, like a terrorist, at the very core of morality.

"No irony, that's what fundementalism breeds, they take the word literally. Fundementalism,,,,,,yeah....Once again I'd..uh...recommend a healthy dose of psylisybinmushrooms......Three weeks ago, two of my freinds and I went to a ranch in Texas and took what Terrance McKenna calls a heroic dose....Five dried grammes...let me tell you our third eye were squeegeed quite cleanly.....WOW!........and I,m glad they're against the law...you know why?
Cos I sat in a field of green grass for four hours going: "My God...I love every thing!...The heavens parted, God looked down and rained gifts of forgiveness onto my being healing me on every level...psychically, physically, emotionally...and I realised that our true nature is spirit, not body and that we are eternal beings and Gods love is unconditional, and there's nothing we can do to ever change that....it is only our *illusion*..that we are seperate, and the truth is *we* are one...."

So much has been said about this man that it is hard to come to a clear picture of who he was outside of his books. Dubbed as a fake by academia, he has none the less received a huge global following.

His first book, "The Teahings of Don Juan", introduced westerners to the unique world of a Yaqui Indian "Sorcerer". What must be said is that critics of Mr Casteneda have most of the time read only a few of his books. It s vital, if one is to understand the crux of his message, that one read *all* of his books. Anything less than viewing his life works as a whole is going to be a hugely misled interpretation.

Did Don Juan exsist? Did Carlos really experience the things he describes? Well yes and no. But the point is, who cares? The techniques work, the story is thrilling and above all the narrative tells the story of the archetypal FOOL of the tarot. The books are chock full of Qabalistic symbols, if you can recognise them, and offer a freedom that most westerners would find horrifying.

Carlos has received his fair share of criticism and bad press, this was only to be expected. People have gone out of their way to "prove" the non-exsistance of Don Juan and to accuse Carlos of being a fraud. The truth is, if you look at the fist sentence on PAGE 1 of the first book, so obviously clear to the intellegent reader:

"This is a work of allegory.."

It amazes me how critics can write whole books trying to prove that he was a lyer, when before he wrote anything he said it all himself!! Carlos Casteneda was said to be a Rosicrucian, and , bearing this in mind, all the pieces fit together to form a very interseting picture.

Was Crowley a Satanist?Well, he could and did play the Satanist game on occasion, just as he played the Buddhist game, the Taoist game, the Hindu game, the atheist game, and lots of others.It is emphatically not true that his reputation as Satanist and Black Magician was spread entirely by his enemies;he collaborated gleefully in blackening his own character.To understand his motives, you must first understand the role of terror in reimprinting the nervous system for higher, post-terrestrial functioning.Aside from yoga and psychedelic drugs, the only method for reimprinting the nervous system is shock, especially near-death trauma.Most shamans are people who have gone through the death-rebirth process, just as in our own society you still find people who have passed through "clinical death," got revived on the operating table, and came back raving about transtime perspectives and beings of Crowley knew, as many shamans do, that you can get this result (shock and reimprint) quickly with some students by simply scaring the daylights out of them.A classic gimmick is to steadily increased their (repressed) suspicion that the beloved guru, in whom they have stupidly placed blind faith and love, is actually a diabolist out to destroy them, drive them made, or enslave them.Crowley used this technique often.The students who confront their fear and conquer it achieve a higher neurological awareness.
